- On January 5, 2004, I entered the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA, for a routine appendectomy. I awoke the next day and was told I had adenocarcinoma of the appendix. Through the love, support, and prayers of my friends and family, I've managed to survive 4 major surgeries, around 22 months (and counting) of chemotherapy, and a loss in the Super Bowl by my beloved Chicago Bears. Here I'll post the occasional update on my cancer, as well as anything else I find interesting or amusing.

I knew Dennis back in middle school and have even posted some pictures of him on my FB page. He was always such a wonderful kid. I think about him from time to time. I always did. When I found out of his passing, it preyed on my mind deeply. I am so sorry for his loss. Please know that I will think of him often. He was a great friend to those that knew him.
I just wanted Dennis' family (especially his mother - I was in touch with her for a short while after Dennis' passing) to know that I constantly draw inspiration from his life and his words. We didn't meet in the US but, as expats in Germany trying to learn German, we had a Stammtisch together and I had the privilege of spending time with him every week. I have since moved to South Africa (my third continent!) and I share his story whenever I can. I still read parts of his blog that I printed to remind me, as he has most recently has once again, to stop waiting for my life to begin and choose to be happy now. I would like to dedicate my concert tonight to him and I'm certain that he knows that his life continues be something of value...and not only the end of his life. God bless you all. Titilayo
